Dogs and their Dapper Duds

We have blogged about Sirius Republic collars a few times now. Most notably, here and here. But finally, finally, we are able to introduce our own pups, and their spiffy collar choices! Drum rolllllll… (Please, no flash photography, and hold your applause until the end.)

And then there was one…

Yes, that really is the best I could do...

Geege Louise. Yes, that really is the best we could do…

But at least her collar is cute, right?

While I had pretty high expectations while anticipating the arrival of the dogs’ new duds, I was even more pleasantly surprised than I thought I would be. The quality of these collars just can’t be described, but I will do my best. The patterns are bright and bold, and the collars themselves are much thicker than they appear, backed with nylon. I expect that this will enable them to be worn for months to come. In addition, they were perfectly sized to each of our pups’ unique measurements. I am so thrilled with our purchase and the customer service that I am already looking forward to the day when we will need additional collars, just so that I can return to Sirius Republic… the hardest part of the whole process was making our selections!

You may also have noticed their unique and eye-catching custom tags. You can find them at Sew Olive. We adore them… and think they pair perfectly with the Sirius collars.

Siriusly Fashionable

Happy Friday, friends! We will keep it short and sweet today. I don’t know if you’ve ever noticed, but the collars you see on our dogs in most of the photos are in pretty sorry shape. We have been wanting to place an order with Sirius Republic since before we even started this blogging adventure! You may remember this post. Well, the time has finally come. We are ready to place our order!

Before we place the order, we wanted to check in with our readers. Do you have any input as to what collars we should order for the pups? We would like for them to coordinate between the three dogs, but not match. Also, we want the pattern choices to be indicative of each of the dog’s respective personality traits, and compatible with their coat collars and markings. By now, most of you probably know their personalities almost as well as we do. Do you think they are conveyed in our choices? Do you have better suggestions? Check out the Sirius Republic selection of patterns here!

Gaige’s Collar

DSC_0006

Gaige is the pup that is adorable, mischevious and spunky, and constantly getting into something. A daddy’s girl, she knows how to flit her lashes and wiggle her tail just right to squeak her way out of trouble. She loves to play rough but is also a cuddle bug. Also, Foster Dad has a thing for cherry emblems and vintage patterns.

Georgia’s Collar

Gia girl is the laid-back one of the group, never letting much get her worked up. She loves food and snuggles more than anything else in life, and is always up for some fun. She can be a bit stubborn, but only because she knows that she has us wrapped around her little white-tipped-tail.

Tonka’s Collar

Tonka is our gentleman, a friend to all! His haters call him a teacher’s pet or a suck-up, but they’re just jealous that he has brains, brawns, and beauty. Obedience and loyalty are his greatest strengths, especially when his mama is a part of the equation. As a high school stereotype, Tonka would be the handsome jock that is friends with everyone, gets good grades, and helps your grandma across the street! We are having a little bit more trouble choosing his perfect pattern, so can you help us by voting?!

Take a look at their options and let us know if there is one that stands out to you as being perfect for the Tonkinator! We also love the gray sugar skulls, but are worried it might be too feminine for him. Also the Brewskies, and Bon Voyage… oh dear, we just can’t decide!

Do your dogs wear Sirius Republic collars? And if not, what in the world are you waiting for?! Sirius Republic has graciously offered a discount code to our loyal readers. If you are ready to take the plunge and make your dogs the most stylish ones on the block, head on over to their website and enter this code to enjoy 10% off: AFMF10. Thank you SR! Enjoy the weekend, friends!

We Need Your Help! Contest: Continued…

Hi there friends! We hope everyone had a great weekend 🙂 We got to spend lots of time outdoors with our pups… including an impromptu swim in the pond! I didn’t take my camera along, because as I said, it wasn’t exactly planned… dogs will be dogs, and all of that 😉 We were walking along on a sunny Sunday, and I guess the dogs had more adventurous activities in mind.

In other news, our contest is still in full swing, but nearing an end! For those of you that are late to the party, we are accepting photo submissions of your ‘dangerous’ dogs at their ‘meanest’… you know, licking you to death, stealing the covers, and aggressive snuggling. The usual.

contest01 contest02 contest03

Submissions must be received by Friday, April 26th, and can be sent to me at sel1490@gmail.com. Most importantly, each submission will earn ONE pound of dog food, to be donated to a local animal shelter! Further, these photos will be placed one our facebook page. The most liked/shared photo will be our winner, and that will earn you and your pup some pretty cool prizes! Basically, your dog will be famous, and that means your adoring fans at AFM5 will send you swag. Does it get any better than that? I mean seriously, you’re helping to feed homeless dogs, while spreading pit bull love, and all you have to do is document your adorable dog being adorable. Easy, peasy.

To learn more about the precious pups you see here, head on over to our facebook page! (Right hand side of your screen!) While you’re there, be sure to vote for your favorites. If you’re wondering why, it’s because one random sharer will earn a prize as well!

While we our LOVING the photos you’ve sent us so far, and we have been completely blown away by all the squeezable, lovable, kissable faces and sassy, sweet antics, our current count is only up to 21… which equates to only 21 pounds of dog food! We know the local shelters need more than that, so please help to recruit for us!

Along those lines, we want our readers to help us select the local shelter where our food donation will be made. Let us know!

Contest Continued!

A few new photo submissions to share! We have to admit, our readers seem to have a disproportionate amount of incredibly adorable pups. Head over to our facebook page to participate, learn more about each submission, and vote for your favorites… there just might be something in it for you! Have a great weekend, everyone 🙂

Fundraiser: Prize #6 – Staying Cozy

I don’t know about you guys, but it is still pretty chilly here in Pennsylvania, and I am not anticipating an end to that any time soon. I am lucky that we live on a somewhat large, private piece of property, because it makes it easy (and safe!) to scoot the dogs out the back door in the early mornings or late evenings. I can stay warm and cozy inside, watching them through the glass door, while they venture through the snow and slush to investigate strange smells and do their other ‘important’ business. Gaige and Tonka both have some thickness to their coats, so I haven’t had to worry too much about them throughout the winter. However, poor widdle Gia is a big baby when it comes to cold weather. She will stand at the back door, refusing to go any further, until I wrap her cheap-o Petsmart coat around her back, and push her out the door. I have been searching for a functional yet fashionable solution to this problem, with little success. I wasn’t sure I could justify paying almost as much for a tiny little dog coat, as I have for my own! All of my worries were without cause once I found…

Tiennot Knits: Custom Sweaters

Our friend Emily writes one of our favorite blogs over at Our Waldo Bungie. As much as she loves big, block-headed dogs like our Georgia and her own Turk, Emily is also a talented DIY / crafter / designer lady, and so it would be only natural to imagine her combining the two passions. She teamed up with her mother, who began knitting sweaters for her own grand-pups (Turk, Rufus, and an assortment of fosters) and the trend caught on. Before long, all of her blogging friends needed some of their own, and thus, Tiennot Sweaters was born! Their business has since grown into a variety of hand-knitted accessories for your pup, including knitted hoods and bow ties.

While these sweaters were originally designed with the short-coated pittie in mind, they can be adapted to fit almost any dog! This is because they are created uniquely upon each order, with requests for your dog’s specific measurements. They are also conscious of our ‘elderbulls,’ and offer designs with front and side buttons for easy access. Not only are these products designed with quality in mind, but they offer incredibly competitive pricing.

I’ve been a big fan of Emily’s for a long time. She has always been so kind and encouraging of myself, and many other blogging new-comers. Of course, I shouldn’t have been surprised when she graciously offered to contribute to our fundraiser for LCPO. Nevertheless, I so appreciate her generosity in granting one custom Tiennot Knits fitted sweater to a lucky winner of the giveaway. To provide a little warmth for your pup and add a little warmth to you heart, enter the giveaway by donating at least $10 per entry, here. Remember, all donations will benefit our rescue! Stay-tuned for a few more prizes to be announced over the coming week!

Fundraiser: Unveiling Prize #1

On Friday, I introduced all of you to our fundraiser and giveaway, which will benefit our rescue, LCPO! You may remember that I promised to offer 2 prizes, to be given away at random to two of the generous donators. I am so happy to report that the response to our fundraiser has been so great, that we will be able to provide much more than that! Over the next few days, I will be bringing you information on each of our generous sponsors, all of whom create products that we passionately support and/or utilize ourselves! I can’t wait to introduce you to these guys!! Not only that, but we have decided that to be most fair, for each donation in increments of $10, you will be entered to win. For example, if you make a $20 donation, you will be entered twice!

Little Bow Pup: Quilted Bow Tie

We are so in love with the 'sugar skulls' pattern!

We are so in love with the ‘sugar skulls’ pattern!

One of the prizes I am most excited about is this gorgeous bow tie, generously donated by Little Bow Pup! Their Etsy store offers a quick way to check out stunning pup accessories, meant to dress up any collar or harness. These accessories include bow ties and flowers, and they are artfully handcrafted and quilted by our friend Ashley, who also runs the blog Pitlandia. What a small world! The girls in our house are especially salivating over these goodies, but Little Bow Pup provides accessories for the four-legged boys & girls! We will definitely be purchasing a few of our own. Why shouldn’t our pups be as fashionable and well-dressed as their owner tries to be?!

Did I mention that they also sell whimsical tutus? I am such a sucker for a pittie butt, especially when they are encircled by brightly-colored tulle!

Check out the Little Bow Pup facebook page for some gorgeous shots of Ashley’s diva dog, Athena, modeling her goods. She is a rescued pittie, and quite the spoiled one at that! Don’t your dogs deserve to be outfitted as fashionably as Miss Athena?

734550_157479477736969_2000726111_n

All joking aside… while there is nothing more amusing than dressing up our dogs, remember that there is a higher purpose associated with this act. We are all about advocating for the lovable snuggle-bugs that we know as pit bulls. A big muscley dog dressed in a tu-tu is a great way to encourage people to approach your dog for some quality cuddle time… which you can take as an opportunity to advocate for your breed! Who wouldn’t want to meet a dashing, dapper dog dressed up in a bow-tie?! These accessories especially serve a great purpose when it comes to foster dogs. The more people your foster dog meets-and-greets, the more likely they are to find a great home! Finally, accessories like these can make a great donation to your local shelter, as they work really well to create interest pieces in photos of shelter pups. Thanks to Ashley for creating a product that is not only fun and adorable, but also helps spread awareness for our bully breeds.

A most sincere thank you goes out to those of you who have already donated and/or shared, as well as to our contributors. It is funny how in times like these, you can find out who your real supporters are! If you are dying to be entered to win your very own bow tie from our generous friends Ashley & Athena at Little Bow Pup, head here to make a donation to our fundraiser for LCPO! Remember, each donation in increments of $10 will earn you an additional entry.

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday : Birthday Tutu

IMG_0426It’s a big dog. In a little pink tu-tu. Come on, does it get any cuter than that?!

Actually, it does. I celebrated a birthday last weekend, and my amazing brother sent me this card. Not only that, but he also sent a little bit of moolah for me (because he said I do too much for the dogs, and should have something to spend on myself) and ALSO pledged a donation to our rescue, in my name. Can you say, “Awwwww“?! And yes ladies, he is single. 😉 But I must warn you that the application and interview process is stringent…

Thanks T-Bone! You are the best brother ever, and I didn’t need this card to prove it!
